Today was a day of total relaxation as we cruised from the
Greek Islands to Croatia.
The ship's captain is Panagiotis Mantzavinos. He seems friendly enough and is quite often seen walking around the boat meeting the passengers. He just lacks that charisma of the Captain Tasos of the Celebrity Constellation. The cruise director, Josh Riffle, is outstanding. He is very outgoing and is able to get a large crowd of passengers to participate in the events on board.
The social onboard activities are very different from the transatlantic cruise we took last year. I suspect that younger age of the passengers and the warmer weather has a lot to do with this difference. Most of the daytime activities take place around the pool and sun deck, as opposed to the inside lounges. During the evening the passengers are enjoying themselves at all the different bars and lounges, where as it seemed that on the transatlantic cruise only a few select bars were occupied.
The boat has three house bands. Trombone Jones is the leader of the main theatre orchestra. He also plays jazz with the rest of the band, when they are not in the theatre. There is a Filipino band that plays top forty and oldies music in the pool area during the day and entertains in the disco during the evening. There is also a jazz quartet with a very strong yet mellow female singer.
During one of the evenings there was a 70's themed party. With the Filipino band playing and dancers from the theatre production crew on stage, all that was missing was Chuck Norris and we could have a scene from any of the world's worst Vietnam War movies.
Tonight nothing exciting happened, other than it was another formal dinner night where they served us Lobster and Beef Wellington. Ho-hum.
